Exegesis [Next intake 2027]
Master the art of biblical interpretation through careful engagement with Scripture's language, literary forms, and historical context. Learn to discern God's revelation responsibly, ensuring you hear His voice clearly rather than imposing personal preconceptions.
EXEGESIS: How should you rightly explicate and understand the Bible?
The Bible can be a challenging book to understand, particularly for those unfamiliar with the fundamental conceptual frameworks through which it communicates. Exegesis requires close engagement with the language of biblical text.
It is essential to understand its literary forms and to analyse each passage carefully in order to discern its central message or the specific revelation of God it conveys.
To understand God and His will, it is important to consider several key aspects:
- The cultural and historical context of each biblical passage, as well as its position within the broader revelation of God
- God’s claim on humanity in light of the fall into sin and His election
- The covenant and the kingdom of God, within which He establishes His church God’s justice and mercy
- The doctrine of election and God’s sovereign claim on each individual.
This course equips students to read and interpret the Bible responsibly, ensuring that God’s voice is clearly heard through Scripture, rather than imposing their own preconceptions or interpretations upon the text.
