CANONS OF THE BIBLE (TEXTUAL CRITICISM): The Texts of the Bible

In the first five books of the Bible, we gain insight into humanity, beginning with creation and the fall, and come to know God in both His justice and grace. Central to these books is the Covenant as the means by which God establishes a relationship with mankind.

This course explores the distinctive place the Pentateuch holds within Scripture, addressing its origin, authorship, and foundational role for the rest of the Bible. While the Pentateuch is frequently the subject of scholarly debate and criticism, this study upholds a commitment to its historicity and divine inspiration.

It aims to guide students toward a deeper understanding of God, His sovereign Council, and how He effectuates His will in the lives of His people.

Each book is examined in depth with particular attention to its theological message, historical context, covenantal structure, typological significance, and Christological trajectories.

Key themes explored include creation and the fall, divine election, the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants, the interplay between law and grace, God’s abiding presence among His people, and the formation of a holy nation called to live under His sovereign rule.
